Many Personyze actions can be displayed in a popup or placeholder. To create a standard, promotional popup or banner, follow the path:

New Campaign > Add Actions > Insert Popup, Banner, Html, etc.

For other actions that can be displayed in popups or placeholders, such as recommendation widgets, sliders, countdowns, lead management forms, or any other widgets that support this feature, follow a similar path, but choose these other actions from the action menu, instead.

For the purposes of this guide, we will use the Popup/Banner/HTML Manager, but the features and settings are similar in all other actions that display in a placeholder or popup. All these actions include the popup and placeholder options in the action settings, below where you set the content.

In the Popup/Banner/HTML Manager, choose a template, or start from scratch with the HTML Editor. If you use the HTML Editor, create the content for the action from scratch, or insert your pre-made content. To switch between using the editor and typing source code, click the Source button in the HTML editor.

If you use a template, you will see a menu on the left with various ways in which you can customize the Popup/Banner Manager, and make it your own, as well as an HTML Source button at the bottom:

You can set the width and height of the popup box, or leave it as automatic.

Responsive Design

All templates are responsive, and you can preview their look on different devices, using Personyze preview mode.

Close Button

When inserting your close button (using the Insert Close Action Button), you can use one of the included Personyze buttons, or use a different close button by linking to an image URL. You can also add the setting, “Don’t show again for X amount of sessions,” for when the visitor closes the popup/banner.

Dynamic Variables

Personyze allows you to use dynamic parameters, such as the visitor’s name or account balance, visitor’s city, search keyword, and more within your personalized action. You can add a new dynamic parameter in the HTML Editor, by clicking the Add Personyze Variable icon, and choosing the parameter you’d like to use. You can also associate default value to such parameters which will be shown, in case Personyze does not have value for such parameters. In case you do not want to show the dynamic parameter in cases where there is no value in it, make sure the default value is empty.

You can also associate default value to such parameters which will be shown, in case Personyze does not have value for such parameters. In case you do not want to show the dynamic parameter, in cases where there is no value in it, make sure the default value is empty. For instance, if you don’t have the visitor’s name, you can leave the name empty, so instead of saying “Hi ${username},” it will simply say “Hi,”.

Examples:
${search_word:default()}
${country:default()}
${first_name:default(client)}

Popup/Banner Location/Position

You  have 3 options for where to show your content/promotion/banner:

  1. Placeholder, which is a predefined location on the page
  2. Popup, which is a floating dive with 9 different positions on the page
  3. Top/Bottom Bar, which pushes the page down/up to display your message (Read more on header-notification )

2. Top/Bottom Bar pushes the rest of your page up or down.

3. Placeholder, a predefined location on the page that you can set using the Personyze simulator interface, which allows you point and click to set the location. Once a placeholder is set, Personyze saves it, and you can interchangeably insert different content and promotions into it, in different actions.

Additional Popup Settings

Animation and Look: this includes the ability to have a glass panel (modal dialog) which darkens the rest of the screen, and doesn’t allow the user to interact with the site until they click or dismiss the popup.

Page Groups

You can predefine a group of pages, to limit the display of your Popup/Banner for those pages only. The Page Group is designed to have a campaign that it targets.

For example, using a Page Group, we can have one campaign for a repeating customer, with different popups, banners, and messages that will appear, each on a specific page, as defined in the Page Group. Otherwise, without the Page Group feature, we would need to open a separate campaign for each Popup/Banner.

You may also re-use those Page Groups in other Popups/Banners, or campaigns. Please be aware that first, Personyze checks the campaign audience group rules, to decide when to show a Popup/Banner to a given visitor, and only after the visitor matched those settings, the Page Group setting will kick in and limit whether the Popup displays on the page.

Don’t Show again “IF” Visitor…

Choose when not to show the popup again (optional), such as if the visitor saw the popup, or clicked Close, and for how many sessions not to show it again. In case you want to use a time limit not to show again, instead of sessions, use the audience rules “campaign interactions.”

Preview Banner/Popup

You can preview popups/banners on a given page on your site. If you want to share the preview with your colleagues, just copy the URL in the preview window. For the Preview Mode to work, the tracking code needs to be installed on that page. If you wish to preview all actions of a campaign together, or preview without the tracking code, check out the QA campaign option to use the simulator.

Report to Google Analytics

By default, any visitor interactions with your Personyze popups/banners is reported to Google Analytics. To disable reporting, or to learn more about how to view popups’/banners’ performance in your Google Analytics, read the Google Analytics Integration Guide.

More Advanced Settings (optional):

  1. External Assets – includes the ability to upload CSS of javascript files to the document when executing the popup
  2. When Event Takes Place – Numerous additional actions which can happen automatically when popup is seen, clicked, or closed.
  3. Alerts, which can:
  • Send an email alerting that an action is underperforming.
  • Automatically deactivate that action or audience when the visitor matches some audience (custom conditions are met).
  • Influence 3rd party apps via Webhook actions based on campaign performance.

All popups in Personyze are responsive by default, and all visitor interactions with the popup are tracked, and available for use in segmentation.
