A list in Personyze is a set of people: imported, made by a form, or made by a campaign. It is also an audience. A campaign can target it with the User lists rule, and an Automatic AI emails campaign writes to each person who joins it. Three places put people on your lists, or take them off, by what they do. All three use the same Add to and Remove from rows over your account’s lists.
| Where | When the list changes | Who it reaches |
|---|---|---|
| An on-site action, its Track & follow up step | When they see it, click it (or submit it) or close it | The visitor who did it |
| An email campaign, When people react on its Sending step | When they open it, click a link, reply, unsubscribe, or it bounces | The person the email was sent to |
| The Update lists action | When the campaign matches them | Everybody the campaign matches |
Add to, Remove from, and a new list
- Add to and Remove from each take up to 10 lists (“At most 10 lists on each side.”). Pick them under Choose lists….
- + New list asks for a New list name, and Create list makes it and picks it.
- A list that is rebuilt from its feed removes anyone the feed does not carry. If you add people to such a list, the row warns that they will be taken out again at its next sync.
- A list deleted since reads (deleted).
- Your lists are under Audiences → Audience lists, and imports under Settings → Imported user data — see Imported user data.
On an action: when they see it, click it or close it
In any on-site action, open the last step, Track & follow up, then Add them to a list and Set it up. There is a column for each event the action has: When they see it, When they click it (When they submit it on a form) and When they close it. The same rows are under More, for developers as Add to or remove from lists. There, once a list is chosen under Add to, Send them an AI email opens a new Automatic AI emails campaign with that list already chosen.
- Personyze’s server makes the change when it hears of the event, once for each visitor.
- A visitor who is not saved to a profile yet is changed when their profile is saved, within about two hours of their visit.
The step itself is on Track & follow up.
On an email: When people react
An email campaign’s Sending step has a card called When people react: Put people on your lists, or take them off, by what they do with these emails – a list can then start your next campaign for them. Its choices apply to every email of the campaign. If the emails were set apart and change different lists, a choice here sets it for all of them.
| Row | What counts |
|---|---|
| When they open it | The email’s pictures load. Some mail apps load an email’s pictures by themselves, which counts as opening it. |
| When they click a link | Any link, or One link chosen from the email’s links. Some companies’ mail scanners follow every link to check it, which counts as a click. |
| When they reply | A reply is seen only with Track replies on for the email — see Reply tracking. |
| When they unsubscribe | From the unsubscribe link, by replying to ask, or by marking the email as spam. |
| When it bounces | A permanent bounce. |
- Each change is made once for each email sent to a person, the first time they do it. Someone not saved to a profile yet is changed when their profile is saved.
- Because opens and clicks can come from a mail app or a scanner, Remove from on those rows can take someone off a list without their having read the email. The card says so once a list is on that side.
- Someone who unsubscribed from this email only still gets your other campaigns. A list under When they unsubscribe that another campaign emails would send them that campaign.
The rest of the step is on The Sending step of an email campaign.
The Update lists action: everybody a campaign matches
Update lists is an action of its own. In the action picker, its card reads Update your lists: Puts each person it matches on your lists, or takes them off. It shows nothing on your site. Its one setting is the Add to and Remove from rows, and an email address is not needed.
| Campaign | Where to find it | Who it reaches |
|---|---|---|
| A real-time campaign on your site: Targeting and Personalization, A/B Testing, Landing Page, CRM / User-List Targeting | Forms, remarketing emails | Every visitor the campaign matches. A visitor’s lists are changed once a day at most, however often they match. |
| An automation: Email & SMS Personalization, Cart Abandonment Emails | The action picker | Everybody the campaign matches. Someone who unsubscribed from your emails is left out, as for every automation. |
- Until a list is chosen, the action changes nothing, and says so: Choose at least one list – until then this action changes nothing.
- When every list it names has been deleted, it changes nothing either, and says that too.
What a list starts
- An email the AI writes. An Automatic AI emails campaign starts when someone joins one of these lists: only people who join after you publish.
- Another campaign’s audience. The User lists rule on a campaign’s Target step matches the people on a list — see Targeting rules.
