Apollo Integration — Find the Right Person at a Visiting Company

Connect your own Apollo API key so Company follow-up can find the right person - name, title and verified work email - at each company that visits your site.

3 min read Updated 55 minutes ago

Apollo finds the person to write to at a company that visits your site, for Company follow-up. With your own Apollo API key, Personyze looks up the people at the company’s web address who hold the job titles set in the Follow up identified company action, and reveals their work email.

Create a master key. Apollo answers a search for people only with a master API key. Any other key is refused when you connect it: “Apollo did not accept this key”.

What it is used for

  • Personyze sends Apollo the company’s web address and your titles — nothing about your visitor — and searches the people there at the ranks that decide: owners, founders, C-level, partners, VPs, heads and directors.
  • It reveals them one at a time and stops at the first with an address Apollo verified at the company’s own domain — at most five a company. A personal email is never asked for.
  • Only an address Apollo calls verified is emailed. Anyone else goes to your rep in an alert.

Set it up

  1. In Apollo, go to Settings → Integrations → API and create a key for Personyze, as a master key.
  2. In Personyze, go to Integrations → Marketplace, find Apollo and click Set up.
  3. Paste the key into Your Apollo API key and click Connect.

Personyze checks the key with Apollo before saving it (Checking…), with a search that uses no credit. Once Apollo accepts it, the drawer reads Connected, and Apollo is listed under Your integrations.

On an account without the Company follow-up add-on, the drawer says so; a key saved there reads “Saved – used once Company follow-up is on.”

Connecting says Why
“That does not look like an Apollo API key: 16 to 64 letters, digits, dashes and underscores.” What you pasted is not a key’s shape. Copy it again.
“Apollo did not accept this key. Check it is active in Apollo (Settings → Integrations → API keys) and enter it again.” Apollo refused it: it is not active, or not a master key.
A message ending “Try again in a moment.” Apollo could not answer just then. Nothing was saved.

Your key

The key is stored encrypted and never shown again; only the follow-up opens it. To remove it, click the bin icon beside Connected and confirm.

When Apollo refuses it later

If Apollo refuses the key while it is in use — it was deleted, say — Personyze switches it off at once and does not keep trying. The drawer reads Switched off, with the reason; on Identified companies the company reads Apollo key refused, with Check your Apollo key beside it. Until you connect a key again, companies are looked up with Hunter alone if it is connected, and wait if not.

Credits

  • The search is free; each person revealed uses one Apollo credit, and Personyze stops at the first verified address.
  • Apollo’s answer about a company is kept for 30 days, even an empty one, so repeat visits cost nothing.
  • Out of credits, the key is switched off rather than retried, and the company reads Apollo out of credits. Add credits in Apollo, then connect the key again.
  • Too many requests: the company waits an hour (contact provider busy).

Apollo and Hunter

Apollo is asked first. When it has nobody at a company, or cannot answer, Hunter is asked with your Hunter key, if you connected one. Without an Apollo key, Hunter is the only one asked.
