AI Product Recommendations Setup — Your Store’s Widgets, Placed and Measured by AI

Let Personyze read your products and your pages, place recommendation widgets on your home page and product pages, check them on staging and measure what they earn.

9 min read Updated 3 hours ago

Product recommendations, set up with AI puts recommendation widgets across your store for you. Personyze reads your products, sees what your visitors look at, chooses the widgets, finds a spot for each on your own pages and draws it there with your own products. You check it, change anything you like, and publish. Start it in New campaign: on the Product Recommendations card, press Set it up with AI. An account has one — once yours exists, the button says Open your AI setup.

Two short films: the setup from its first open to Publish to staging, then what a live setup shows on Performance.

AI product recommendations: the first time · 2:13
How it works, your products from a Google Shopping feed, Set it up for me, three widgets drawn on your own pages, and Publish to staging.
AI product recommendations: with results · 1:01
Performance over the last 30 days: attributed revenue, the funnel against the period before, Recommended items, and asking the AI assistant.
Nothing reaches your visitors until you publish. Publish to staging puts the widgets on your pages for you alone, with a preview link. Publish to live is yours: the setup never publishes live.

How it works

The campaign’s steps are Your products, What visitors look at, Where to show them, QA and Performance. The box beside them, Products set up with AI, says where the campaign stands — on staging or live, and since when — and Needs you lists anything to fix.

Set it up for me, or step by step

On the first open, Your site is the site the samples are read from (the arrow has your others). Then How should we set it up?

Choice What happens
Set it up for me (Recommended) Personyze reads your store, chooses the widgets and finds their spots — a few minutes, and you can leave the page meanwhile. It opens on Where to show them: you check one summary, then publish.
Let me check each step Opens Your products; you go through the steps one by one.

It is asked once. A site with no products and no product pages is offered Read my products from your site and Connect a store or a feed instead — and, when it has articles, Recommend your articles instead.

Your products

Widgets can only show products Personyze knows. How do your products come in?

Way What it does
Connect my store Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento or BigCommerce: products, prices and stock stay in sync. See Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce.
A product feed The feed you already give Google Shopping. Paste its address; its columns are matched to ours by their names — name, picture, price, page — you check them and import. It is read again on its schedule. See Product feeds.
Read them from my site No feed? Personyze finds your product pages and reads them. See Crawl your site.

A file can also be uploaded, or sent over SFTP (Uploading feeds); an uploaded file does not update on its own.

Ready for recommendations? then lists what would make a widget look wrong — products with no picture, name, link, price, category or stock value — and when Sizes are stored as separate products, Show each product once shows them as one. A fix is a setting of the widgets, never a change to your store.

What visitors look at

The widgets learn from the products each visitor views. This step shows Product views, Added to cart and Purchases in the last 24 hours, and how many viewed products are in your catalog. When your pages send another id, it offers a fix — such as Match them by SKU — with the share it would match, and changes it only when you say so.

A site without the tracking code is told so first, with Get your tracking code › and Install through Tag Manager. Set up product tracking records views, adds to cart and purchases (how). Until there is a history, best sellers and popular products fill the widgets.

Where to show them

Personyze opens a few of your pages of each kind, on a computer and a phone, finds a spot for each widget and draws the page with it:

Widget Page What it picks
Recommended for you Home page Picked for each visitor; before a history, recently viewed, best sellers, popular.
Frequently bought together Product pages What is bought with the product on screen; before there are purchases, what others viewed then bought.
You may also like Product pages From what the visitor viewed, then similar items and what others also viewed.

On each widget’s card:

  • The picture of your page with the widget in it — two icons switch it between a computer and a phone — and on how many sample pages the spot was found.
  • The switch beside its name, On or Off, takes effect at your next Publish to staging.
  • Change the algorithm and Change the look open the widget’s editor in a drawer beside the setup (algorithms, fallbacks).
  • Move it picks another spot on one of your own pages.
  • More settings: Items (1 to 12) and On phones — Same spot as desktop, Another spot or Not on phones.

Your changes are kept when Personyze reads your pages again. Above the cards, Your kind of site says what the widgets are set up for — each kind of site gets its own widgets — and Badges on your widgets (% off, only a few left, popular); each has Change. When a kind of site’s best widgets need the account to read your product pictures, product titles or articles with AI, its card offers Turn on picture reading (or product or article reading), with what it costs; a widget that waits for that reading says what it shows until then. For rules, audiences or more widgets, Open the full editor shows the same campaign with every step; the setup leaves what you change there as it is.

Publish to staging, QA and live

Press Publish to staging at the top. Personyze builds the widgets, opens a page of each kind on a computer and a phone, and says on each card whether the widget was found. Check again looks once more without republishing.

QA has one row per kind of page. Preview opens your site on staging with the widgets on, in your browser only, with the QA bar; its ▾ has Open without the bar and On a phone, and the link button copies a clean link. Back to live puts your browser back on your live site. See QA campaigns.

When it looks right, press Publish to live. After a change, publish to staging again: on a live campaign that takes it off live until you Publish to live.

Performance

A live setup’s Performance step, on its Recommendations tab, shows what the widgets earn over the range you pick:

Figure What it says
Transactions Orders that included a recommended item.
Attributed revenue The revenue of those orders.
Share of revenue That revenue as a share of your site’s total.
Shown, Viewed, Engaged with an item, Added to cart, Purchased The funnel, each step against the period of the same length just before.
Funnel dynamics Those steps day by day, or week by week.
Revenue attribution Each day’s site revenue, with the part the recommendations brought.

The Recommended items tab goes down to the products: how often each was shown, clicked and bought, By widget, By algorithm or By item. See Performance metrics.

Ask the AI assistant

The panel’s AI assistant can start the setup as Set it up for me does, say where it stands, and publish it to staging when you ask — never to live. Ask it, in your own words, how your recommendations are doing.

For articles

Content recommendations, set up with AI is the same setup for a site of articles, guides and videos. Start it on the Content Recommendations card in New campaign with Set it up with AI (Open your AI setup once yours exists). It has its own campaign, and its box beside the steps is Content set up with AI. The first open offers Set it up for me or Let me check each step, as for products; a site with no articles is offered Read my articles from your site and Connect an article feed — and, when it has products, Recommend your products instead.

Step What it does
Your articles How do your articles come in? — A content feed (an RSS or other feed, or a file) or Read them from my site. Ready for recommendations? then counts the articles a widget can show (with a picture, a title and a link), the articles published, and those on an article page. A widget never shows an unpublished article; when most are, the step says where to publish them.
What readers read Article reads, Comments and Goals in the last 24 hours, and how much of what readers read this week a widget can show — with what holds the rest back: no title yet, unpublished, the same article under another address, or a page that is not an article (your home page, pricing). When reads are recorded on every page, Record reads on article pages only fixes it when you say so. A site that records no reads is offered Set up article tracking.
Where to show them The same cards, switches, Move it and More settings as for products, on your home page and article pages.
Widget Page What it picks
Read next Article pages Picked for each reader, starting from the article they are reading — similar articles, what readers of it also read, and the week’s most read until there is a history.
Recommended for you Home page Picked for each reader from what they and readers like them read; the week’s most read and your newest articles until there is a history.
Recently read Home page The articles this reader read here, to go back to — nothing on a first visit.

When the account’s article reading is on (Turn on article reading on the Your kind of site card), Read next becomes the next step on the topic of the article being read — an explainer, a deeper guide, the next part.

Limits

  • An account has one product setup and one content setup.
  • A widget shows only products in stock with a picture, a link and a price (a shop that shows no prices needs none), never the product on screen.
  • A content widget shows only published articles with a title, a picture and a link.
  • Frequently bought together needs purchases to be itself.
  • A widget changed in the full editor keeps your changes; the setup still turns it on and off and chooses its pages.
  • The setup has no Automation step: a campaign’s rules are made in the full editor.
