Continue Reading is a slim panel that slides in once a reader has scrolled far enough into an article, suggesting the next thing to read. It shows a single recommended article — thumbnail, label, title, author and date — either as a compact row or a stacked card. Because it reads from your content recommendation engine, the suggestion follows what each visitor has actually read rather than simply showing the newest post.
When to use it
- At the end of an article — the classic next-article prompt, to keep a visit going instead of ending it.
- On long guides — appears only once someone has read far enough to be worth interrupting.
- For returning readers — pair the New badge with your Display Frequency settings so regulars see what has been published since their last visit.
Add it to an action
Create an action, open the template picker and choose Continue Reading — Next Article Panel. Use the action’s Location step to dock it to a corner — bottom right is the usual choice — then set the reveal direction to match. Map your catalog columns under Catalog Fields if the title, image or author look wrong.
Settings
Reveal
- Show After Scrolling (%) — how far down the page the visitor must be before the panel appears. 60 means just past halfway. Set 0 to show it as soon as the action runs. Once shown it stays, so it never flickers away when someone scrolls back up.
- Wait First (seconds) — an optional pause before the scroll position is checked at all, so a visitor who flicks straight to the bottom is not ambushed.
- Reveal Direction — slide up, in from the right, in from the left, or a plain fade. Match it to the corner you chose in Location.
- Show on Mobile — hide it on small screens if the panel crowds the page.
The action’s own display conditions still apply on top of these. If you set conditions in both places, both have to be satisfied before the panel appears.
Style
- Colour Preset — light, dark or brand. Colours the panel, the label and the read-next link together.
- Layout — row puts a small thumbnail beside the text, which is the compact next-article look. Stacked puts a full-width image above the text, for a larger card.
- Corners, Drop Shadow, Maximum Width, Text Direction — shape, lift, how wide it may get, and left-to-right or right-to-left.
- Panel CSS — extra CSS on top of the preset.
Catalog Fields
Map your content catalog columns for the title, URL, image and author. Two optional fallbacks let you decide what happens when an article is missing a title or a byline — leave them blank and the line simply hides. Open Article In chooses the same tab or a new one.
Panel Content
Each part — the small label above the title, the author and date row, and the optional read-next link — has its own toggle, and its style control appears only when that part is switched on. The label is worth wording deliberately: Continue reading, Up next and Because you read… all set different expectations.
New Badge
Marks recently published articles. New Badge — Days is a rolling window: set 7 and it always means the last seven days, measured when the page renders, so it keeps working without anyone editing the action later. The badge can sit on the image or above the title, which is the better choice when the image is switched off.
Close & Behavior
- Show Close X — Always, On hover (fades in only when the visitor is over the panel, which is tidier on a small card), or Off.
- What the X Does — dismiss for this page view, hide for the session, or use Personyze’s own suppression governed by the action’s Display Frequency. Hiding for the session is recommended so the panel does not follow the visitor from page to page.
- After the Article Is Opened — what happens once they click through. Hiding for the session avoids offering the same suggestion again in the same visit.
Tips
- Match the reveal direction to the corner. A panel docked bottom-right should slide up or in from the right; sliding in from the left will look like it came from nowhere.
- Set the scroll threshold to where your articles actually end. If your pages carry long footers, 60% may fire while the reader is still mid-article; check on a real page rather than guessing.
- Hide for the session rather than dismissing. A next-article prompt that reappears on every page of a visit reads as nagging.
- The recommendation engine needs reading history. On a new account, or for a first-time visitor, there may be nothing to suggest yet — the panel simply will not show.
