Installing Personyze on Joomla

Personyze Personalization for Joomla puts the tag on every front-end page of a Joomla 4 or 5 site from the plugin settings — no template edits. Install, configure, verify and troubleshoot.

Personyze Personalization for Joomla is the official Personyze plugin for Joomla. It adds the Personyze tag to every page of a Joomla site, configured from the plugin’s own settings. No template edits, and nothing to paste into an override.

Supports Joomla 4 and Joomla 5, and needs PHP 8.1 or newer. Get it from GitHub.

Installing

  1. Download plg_system_personyze-1.0.2.zip from the releases page.
  2. In Joomla go to System → Install → Extensions and upload the file.
  3. Go to System → Plugins, search for Personyze, and open Personyze Personalization for Joomla. (It is a System plugin; installs from before version 1.0.2 are listed as System - Personyze instead.)
  4. Enter your Personyze account ID, set Status to Enabled, and save.

Your account ID is in Personyze under Settings → Tracking Code — it is the number that appears in the snippet there (see Activating Personyze on your site).

The tag is live on the next page load.

There is a second field, Tracking domains. Leave it empty. It is only needed when one Personyze account tracks several domains, and only with the value Personyze support gives you.

What gets tagged, and what does not

  • Every front-end page of the site.
  • Not the Joomla administrator. This is deliberate: personalizing the Joomla back end is never wanted, and it would otherwise report your own clicks as site traffic.
  • Nothing at all until an account ID is set, or while the plugin is disabled.

For the technically minded: the snippet is added through Joomla’s document API on onBeforeCompileHead, while the head is still a structured document — not by string-replacing rendered HTML, which is the approach that breaks when a template does something unexpected.

Updates

The plugin registers a Joomla update site when it installs, so new versions appear under System → Update → Extensions like any other extension.

Verifying

Open any front-end page and view source. You are looking for one script block containing stat-track-lib.js and a _S_T.setup( call with your account ID in it. Then check Personyze — the site should start reporting traffic within a few minutes.

Troubleshooting

I set the ID and pages still have no tag. Check the plugin’s Status is Enabled, not just saved. Then clear the Joomla cache (System → Clear Cache). Remember that a CDN or reverse proxy in front of Joomla has its own cache that Joomla cannot clear.

The tag is present but Personyze shows no traffic. Check the account ID matches the one under Settings → Tracking Code, and that you are looking at the same account in Personyze.
